      <image:title>Work - Blackphabet#O</image:title>
<image:caption>Blackphabet This is a story about drawing. Lines, bold lines, thin lines, straight lines, curved lines. All kinds of lines. Using different types of pens, various shapes of brushes. Once the black ink is dry, how about making it come alive on the body? Let’s wear the drawings! This is also a story about contrasts. How the chunky connective pieces contribute to a soft and lively rope dance. The black color gives the object a uniform body, and it also brings a subtle contrast when light plays on the different surfaces. Silky, snaky, still, mat. This story is finally about playing, trying, experimenting. How to work on variations to create different shapes with the same rope, the same tube. Cut, file, combine, braze, paint, thread, glue. Try again, a different way. And again. In the end, this is all about bringing matter to life. Tube and rope are complementary, and working on the « how to connect » has formed basic industrial materials into simple but elaborate shapes, between beating hearts and alphabet signs. Assembling signs is how one creates reality, isn’t it? Collection of neck pieces and bracelets in copper, powder coating and rope. 2018-2019. Photos of the jewelry on white background : Paige Newton. <image:caption>MODULE Copper, patina, polyester, 2019 Photo : Lucero Archuleta In this collection of neck pieces called Module, I use pieces of copper tubing and polyester rope to make bold ornamental Baroque necklaces. Working with fine traditional jewelry fabrication methods on mass-produced items is for me a way of transforming both techniques and material, and therefore shaking up the traditional jewelry-making process. This rethinking metamorphoses the common into the precious. While working within the constraints of using identical, ready-made objects, I am able to conjure up an unlimited variety of shapes by combining and soldering units together. The sturdy metal parts contrast with the rope’s softness, creating fluid forms and flexible pieces that explore traditional patterns such as flowers and chains. The juxtaposition of industrial components and the human body shows off these elegant necklaces. I define myself as an artist who makes wearable sculptures: the mechanical anatomy of my jewelry creates a striking and unusual dialog with the soft architecture of the body that wears it.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Spin / Mobiles concentriques - Knot</image:title>
<image:caption>Spin is a new serie of brooches that were first shown during the contemporary jewelry week in Paris. These body objects were conceived/designed as mobile structures that bring ropes and concentric elements into action. Rotation is at the heart of the action and embodies a playful movement, like a wheel of fortune or an enchanted merry-go-round. The loops formed by the rope represent a non-stop action and the exuberance in the desire to pursue the fun, perhaps even up to the magma of a knot. The perpetual motion of the wheel turning on itself without stopping can accelerate, as can the rhythm of this song that invites me to enjoy the paroxysm of this moment: Don't stop me now! <image:title>Work - BLACKPHABET BIS - Neck piece #1</image:title>
<image:caption>Between industry and craftsmanship, my work explores the contrasts in materials and their capacity to unite in portable micro-architectures. The pieces I create from metal and rope, two complementary materials from industry, allow me a wide variety of uses and an infinite range of combinations. In the serie Blackphabet Bis, my pieces are spaces to inhabit, sculptures whose mechanical anatomy dialogues with the suppleness of the body that wears them. Inspired by architecture and industrial mechanisms, I exploit constraint as a way of generating form and giving life to matter. A refined beauty is revealed in the fine junction of two tubes, the silkiness of the rope or the dark velvet of the lacquered surface.
